Liam’s Story: Finding Confidence and Clarity When Work Plans Get Confusing

Supporting Neurodiversity & Anxiety with Brain in Hand (2)

Before using Brain in Hand, he regularly struggled with understanding job plans. Instructions that seemed straightforward to others often felt vague or confusing to him especially when they included informal language or banter. This made it difficult to know exactly what was being asked, which led to mistakes or delays.

How Brain In Hand helped:

With Brain in Hand, one key approach was the “check before reacting” strategy - a mental prompt to pause and make sure he understood instructions fully before taking action. He also used a clarifying script, which gave him simple, consistent language to ask for confirmation, such as “Can I just check I’ve got this right?” or “Do you mean…?” The on-demand support feature was especially helpful when he felt uncertain or anxious. Liam was able to request help through the app and talk through the situation with a supporter. This gave him reassurance in the moment and allowed him to stay on site rather than stepping away or avoiding tasks.

The result:

As a result, his time on site became more consistent, and his reliance on sick leave decreased. By reducing the stress caused by unclear instructions and giving him the tools to manage anxiety and communication, Brain in Hand helped him stay in work and thrive.

He became more confident, more accurate in his tasks, and better able to ask for help when needed.
