How Brain in Hand helped Ben stay in work and reach his goals

Challenges before Brain in Hand

Ben is autistic, has a learning disability, and suspects ADHD, all of which make planning, organisation, and managing work and study demands challenging. He previously struggled to manage multiple tasks, cope with stress at work, and remember coping strategies in the moment. Social navigation, travel, and daily tasks such as shopping and using public transport could also be overwhelming. He feared that without structured support, he would struggle to stay in his job or continue his studies. 

How Brain in Hand Helped 

Brain in Hand provided structure and tools that helped him plan, stay organised, and build confidence. He used the diary and reminders to manage his work responsibilities and learning commitments. Mood tracking helped him recognise when he needed support. Storing personal coping strategies in Brain in Hand meant he could access them quickly during moments of stress. The system also supported social interactions and practical tasks like travelling and shopping and gave him a clear way to communicate needs or ask for help, including in his studies. 

The results 

With Brain in Hand, Ben became more confident, organised, and capable of expanding his responsibilities at work - taking on extracurricular activities he would not previously have attempted. Ben believes Brain in Hand enabled him to stay in his job and continue developing in his role. Ben feels he is progressing toward his personal goals and managing challenges more effectively. 

“It definitely helps with planning, looking at things and [asking] ‘Can I do that?’ So knowing I've got that as a support is very important for my confidence in trying to improve.”
