Emotional regulation and social stress at work

A neurodiverse employee works in a busy office. Recently, during a team meeting, they shared an idea that was quickly dismissed by a senior colleague. The comment felt abrupt and dismissive. The employee tried to carry on, but their chest tightened, and they began to feel flushed and shaky.

With Brain in Hand

They logged a quick check-in and selected how they were feeling. The app suggested a pre-planned strategy: “Take 5 minutes away from your desk. Use your grounding technique. Remind yourself of what you did well.”

Still feeling upset, they tapped the on-demand support to connect with a trained responder. Talking it through helped them gain perspective - the colleague’s tone was abrupt, but not personal. The responder reminded them of their plan: “Assume neutral intent, respond later if needed.”

Later, the employee used their solution pack with one of their planned scripts to send a calm, professional follow-up message, something they’d have avoided in the past.

The results

Because of Brain in Hand, they stayed at work, recovered quickly, and handled a difficult situation with professionalism and confidence.
