Overcoming low motivation: Getting started and staying on track

✔️2.4 Time management and organisation

Earlier in the term, a student began struggling with a particularly difficult compulsory module on their course. Despite being dedicated to their studies, they found it hard to stay motivated and often struggled to start tasks. As deadlines approached, the student became increasingly anxious about falling behind.

With Brain in Hand

The student began using the diary function to plan their week in realistic chunks—sometimes just a few hours at a time. Setting reminders for specific tasks helped them focus and feel a sense of achievement as they completed each step.

When motivation dipped, the student accessed their personalised solution pack, filled with tips and advice they’d developed with their coach during setup. These quick strategies helped them find momentum and regain confidence. They also used the check-in system to check in on their mood and stress levels, recognising early signs of overwhelm and taking steps to manage it before it escalated.

Custom prompts and reminders for study sessions, lectures, and even medication helped them stay balanced and consistent in their routine.

The results

The student became more confident in their ability to manage difficult coursework independently. They completed the module on time and felt proud of how they had learned to use structure and self-awareness to stay in control of their studies.
