Managing feedback and team dynamics in a group project

✔️2.8 Social interaction and communication

As part of their course, the student was required to take part in a group project involving joint study, fieldwork, and the completion of a shared final report. Although they had valuable ideas to contribute, they began to struggle with receiving constructive criticism from other group members. Gradually, the student started to withdraw from group discussions and felt less confident about participating.

With Brain in Hand

To manage the situation, the student turned to Brain in Hand for support. They accessed their personalised solution packs, developed with their coach when setting up the app, which included practical strategies for handling feedback, navigating social situations, and maintaining confidence when working in groups.

Using prompts and reminders, they kept track of upcoming group meetings and deadlines, ensuring they stayed organised and contributed consistently. When anxiety or self-doubt started to build, they pressed the on-demand support feature to speak to a trained responder, who helped them reframe their thoughts and approach feedback with calm and confidence.

The results

With Brain in Hand, the student gradually rebuilt their confidence and re-engaged with their group. The personalised strategies helped them respond to feedback more calmly, recognising it as a tool for collaboration rather than criticism. By the end of the project, the student felt more comfortable sharing their ideas and communicating openly with others.
