Scenario: preparing for independent living
Two weeks before moving out on their own, the individual was spending a weekday practising what independent living would look like. Without their carer prompting them, the day initially felt daunting - there were many things to remember, and the fear of forgetting something important caused their anxiety to rise. In the past, this would have led them to rely on others to step in, making the move to independent living feel overwhelming.
With Brain in Hand
In the Brain in Hand app, they used his diary feature and followed a clear daily routine they had set up in advance with their coach. That morning, prompts guided them through getting up, completing their personal care routine independently, and getting dressed without needing reminders. Later in the day, another prompt reminded them to tidy their room, breaking the task into simple steps so it felt manageable rather than stressful.

In the afternoon, they went to the shop on their own, using Brain in Hand to follow a set shopping list and budget. After paying, a prompt reminded them to check how much had been spent and log it, helping to keep track of their finances and understand what they had left for the week.
When preparing dinner later that day, a plan changed unexpectedly as the shop didn’t have an item they needed - they used a solution pack to manage anxiety levels, reminding them to pause, breathe, and choose an alternative.
The results
By the end of the day, they felt proud, calmer, and more confident that they could manage time, routines, and wellbeing independently, making the upcoming move feel achievable rather than overwhelming.
