Navigating anxiety when going out with friends
One afternoon, the individual was invited to go shopping with friends after college. Although they wanted to go, anxiety began to build as the time approached. Crowded shops, noise, and the fear of becoming overwhelmed made the idea feel unmanageable, and in the past, this would have led to cancelling plans and withdrawing from others. As their thoughts spiralled, they began to feel frustrated and angry, telling themselves they did not deserve help and should cope alone.
With Brain in Hand
They used the check-in feature to recognise early signs of overwhelm and accessed a personalised solution pack created with their coach. This included calming strategies and step-by-step coping strategies. Having these steps clearly laid out helped slow things down and reduce emotional intensity before leaving the house.

While out shopping, they referred back to the app when emotions rose, using coping strategies to stay regulated and remind themselves that it was okay to ask for support. Knowing help was available reduced the pressure to “push through” alone.
The results
Afterwards, they reflected on the experience in the app, helping build insight into what worked and what support might help next time. Using Brain in Hand supported them to communicate their needs more safely, reduce emotional escalation, and begin taking part in social activities they had previously avoided.
